Viral marketing techniques latest buzz in Bollywood
You had seen the announcement of Imran Khan rocking the MSN India home page. Here’s what my colleague and friend Vineet Gupta has to say about this in ET:
Films have now moved on from just plain vanilla advertisements to ones that ensure more interactivity with the audience. Microsoft Advertising rich media banner where Imran Khan comes alive to interact with the user on his desktop, walks on the website, looks around, knocks on your screen and then walks into the advertisement and even moves to the tune of the song Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi worked really well for both. A separate shoot was done only for this advertisement which had a click-through rate(CTR) of 2.8%. The average CTR of banner advertisements is 0.3%.
“Earlier content that was developed for the conventional medium was put on the internet too but today specific content is developed for the internet because of the nature of the medium and the returns justify the extra costs. Five lakh users replayed the Jaane Tu… advertisement and then there is word of mouth that goes around too,” says Vineet Gupta, marketing manager, Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions.

Microsoft Engineers Invent Displays That Top LCDs For Efficiency
“Researchers from Microsoft say they’ve built a prototype of a display screen using a technology that essentially mimics the optics in a telescope but at the scale of individual display pixels. The result is a display that is faster and more energy efficient than a liquid crystal display, or LCD, according to research reported yesterday in Nature Photonics … The design greatly increases the amount of backlight that reaches the screen. The researchers were able to get about 36 percent of the backlight out of a pixel, more than three times as much light as an LCD can deliver. But Microsoft senior research engineer Michael Sinclair says that through design improvements, he expects that number to go up — theoretically, as high as 75 percent.”

Hasbro Sues Makers of Scrabble-Like Scrabulous
“As today’s lawsuit indicates, Hasbro has apparently had enough of Scrabulous, the online word game remarkably similar to Scrabble. Filed in New York, Hasbro’s suit is against Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla, brothers from Kolkata, India, and asks the court to remove the Scrabulous application from Facebook, disable the Scrabulous.com web site, and grant damages and attorneys fees to Hasbro. Why did Hasbro tale so long to ‘protect’ its intellectual property rights in court? They waited ‘in deference to the fans’ until EA had launched the official Scrabble Facebook app earlier this month. EA’s version has netted fewer than ten thousand players, versus Scrabulous’ estimated 2.3 million. This was the next logical step for Hasbro after filing DMCA takedown notices against Scrabulous in January.”

India ‘undisputed leader’ in offshore services: Gartner
India remains the “undisputed leader” in a list of the top 30 countries for offshore services prepared by IT market research major Gartner Inc.The research firm based in Connecticut, US, applied a list of 10 criteria to find its top 30, but many of the conclusions are already well known - India is the “undisputed leader” in offshore services, with China, Russia and Brazil providing credible alternatives, while Ireland, Israel, Northern Ireland and South Africa are strong in language skills.
According to Gartner, however, there’s a stampede of new locations determined to get more offshore business. For the 30 countries that met its criteria, Gartner reports, another 35 were viable contenders, giving companies plenty of choices in 2008.

Town in India Rocks (No Use to Wonder Why, Babe)
NYTimes report on how Shillong celebrates Bob Dylan’s birthday every year.
Every May 24 for the last 35 years Mr. Majaw, 61, and one of India’s original rock ’n’ roll bards, has held a homespun celebration of Mr. Dylan’s birth. This year’s version was held in All Saints Hall, next to the church of the same name. Mr. Majaw pranced around the auditorium singing, “Everybody must get stoned.” Two schoolgirls, who described their repertory as mostly Mariah Carey, sang “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” in two-part harmony, having learned it two days before. A poet, Sonny Khyriem, stood up and read a paean: “The voice bathed with protests/Mingled with human rights/Becomes an inspiration/To the toiling millions.”

Though I haven’t used a Nokia phone till now, but still a great fan of it’s phone. (That doesn’t mean I don’t love my Sony W810 and HTC Touch).
In India Nokia is really doing some cool things to stay on top - it’s going musical with Sony BMG, launching Rabbi’s Album and remixing A.R with an Ada.
Now, Ashish on Pluggd.in informs about Nokia upping it’s share in Symbian and acquiring Plazes. It’s means a great mix of Mobile Operating System and an Online Social App with can really integrate well with the device.
