Microsoft Engineers Invent Displays That Top LCDs For Efficiency
“Researchers from Microsoft say they’ve built a prototype of a display screen using a technology that essentially mimics the optics in a telescope but at the scale of individual display pixels. The result is a display that is faster and more energy efficient than a liquid crystal display, or LCD, according to research reported yesterday in Nature Photonics … The design greatly increases the amount of backlight that reaches the screen. The researchers were able to get about 36 percent of the backlight out of a pixel, more than three times as much light as an LCD can deliver. But Microsoft senior research engineer Michael Sinclair says that through design improvements, he expects that number to go up — theoretically, as high as 75 percent.”

Hasbro Sues Makers of Scrabble-Like Scrabulous
“As today’s lawsuit indicates, Hasbro has apparently had enough of Scrabulous, the online word game remarkably similar to Scrabble. Filed in New York, Hasbro’s suit is against Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla, brothers from Kolkata, India, and asks the court to remove the Scrabulous application from Facebook, disable the Scrabulous.com web site, and grant damages and attorneys fees to Hasbro. Why did Hasbro tale so long to ‘protect’ its intellectual property rights in court? They waited ‘in deference to the fans’ until EA had launched the official Scrabble Facebook app earlier this month. EA’s version has netted fewer than ten thousand players, versus Scrabulous’ estimated 2.3 million. This was the next logical step for Hasbro after filing DMCA takedown notices against Scrabulous in January.”

India ‘undisputed leader’ in offshore services: Gartner
India remains the “undisputed leader” in a list of the top 30 countries for offshore services prepared by IT market research major Gartner Inc.
The research firm based in Connecticut, US, applied a list of 10 criteria to find its top 30, but many of the conclusions are already well known - India is the “undisputed leader” in offshore services, with China, Russia and Brazil providing credible alternatives, while Ireland, Israel, Northern Ireland and South Africa are strong in language skills.
According to Gartner, however, there’s a stampede of new locations determined to get more offshore business. For the 30 countries that met its criteria, Gartner reports, another 35 were viable contenders, giving companies plenty of choices in 2008.

Pond’s Ad is a classic example of taking Saas Bahu regression into advertising. They have Saif, Neha Dhupia and Priyanka and all that they have to say is how skin colour can bring back the love. I am just wondering if Ekta Kapoor has started some ad agency.

Net savvy: India surges by 27%, 28mn surf net
India way above Taiwan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore. Indian net user base increased by 27 pc this year nearing over 28 million users. Asia overall had a growth of 14% closing around 319 million users. In Asia Pacific the top 5 countries are China, Japan, India, South Korea and Australia. If you compare India and China numbers, even by the modest of the estimates there is a potential of Indian subscribers to grow 4x. In reality for next 5-10 years we should see y-o-y growth of around 20% atleast. This means a big business for ISPs & Telco’s in India. The current Internet pentration levels in India leave a lot of scope for the growth story to continue. Indian’s are not only getting on to commerce on the net but are also spending quite a lot of time now on social web. On a daily basis we are also adding lot of first timers on the net who will start off with their first mail on the web.

Has Social Media changed the rules of the game
Sachendra Yadav has posted this question on LinkedIn and collected the responses on his blog. For me the rule of the game remains the same and for me there is no thing such as social media marketing. I belive connecting with customers and social media is just another tool, very powerful but still a tool.
Marketing overall remains the same, conveying your poroducts and services to your customers. But when TV came it shook up the marketers who didn’t knew the complexity of this medium and now when Social Media is making the buzz, it’s a challenge again for the marketers to learn about the tremendous complexities of this medium and the people consuming this medium.
Instead of re-inventing the products and re-inventing the relationships with the customers - we are focusssing too much on marketing and that too the tool of marketing i.e Social Media. The need is also to identify your customers - potential and current and to understand their environment. TV & Internet are not just medium - they are environments and these environment are evolving at a supersonic speed.
Do you know the environment and it’s habitants ?
Roderick Ioerger has explained few points nicely about the marketing and the social media -How did we get lost in the noise?
